Nasal polyps clinical trial in Westchester, IL

A research study for adults with chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps, at our clinic on Roosevelt Road in Westchester — about 15 miles west of downtown Chicago.

What nasal polyps are

Nasal polyps are soft, painless growths on the lining of the nose and sinuses. They are not cancerous. They grow out of long-lasting swelling in the sinuses, called chronic rhinosinusitis, and when they are large enough they block the nose.

Doctors call the condition chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps, or CRSwNP. It is commonly managed with steroid nasal sprays and sometimes surgery, but for some people the congestion, the pressure and the lost sense of smell keep coming back.

This page describes research studies. It is not medical advice, and taking part in a study is not a substitute for your own doctor’s care.

Nasal polyps study at Axis

The study has its own ages, length and visit schedule. Only a screening visit can confirm whether you qualify.

What taking part involves

  1. A phone call

A coordinator calls to talk through your history and answer your questions. Nothing is decided on the call.

  2. A free screening visit

At the clinic, with an ENT-focused exam. It decides whether you qualify, and it commits you to nothing.

  3. Study visits

If you qualify and choose to join, you come to the clinic on a schedule set out in advance. How often, and for how long, depends on the study.

  4. No cost, and compensation

Study-related care and tests are at no cost. Compensation is for your time and travel, provided per completed visit, and never contingent on study results.

Clinical research studies are reviewed by an independent ethics board. Taking part is voluntary and you may stop at any time. Only a screening visit can determine whether you qualify. This is not medical advice and no treatment is guaranteed.

Questions about taking part

What does joining the interest list mean?

A study that is opening soon is not enrolling yet. Join the interest list and a coordinator calls you before enrolment opens — interest-list patients are screened first. Joining commits you to nothing.

Do I need a diagnosis of nasal polyps?

Not necessarily. The study is for adults who have been diagnosed with nasal polyps, or who have their symptoms — long-term congestion, a reduced sense of smell, sinus pressure — that persist despite nasal sprays or earlier treatment. The screening visit confirms whether you qualify.

What would taking part involve?

Participants use a daily nasal spray as part of the study, with periodic clinic visits over about 12 months and ENT-focused monitoring at no cost.

Does it cost anything to take part?

No. Study-related visits, tests and study medication are provided at no cost. No insurance is needed, and we never ask for payment information.

Will I get a placebo?

Some studies include one. Where they do, we say so before you agree to anything.

Can I stop taking part?

Yes — at any time, for any reason, without penalty. Your regular medical care is not affected.
